Coding Languages
As you navigate your way through the course, you’ll be reviewing the general guidelines for developing software that conforms to the provisions of Section 508. As a developer, you may work in one particular language, or use a variety in your development activities. Within each provision, you will have the opportunity to review coding examples for the following languages: Oracle Forms 6i, Visual C++ 6.0, Visual Basic 6.0, and Java (Java 2 Platform Standard Edition, Version 1.2 and above).
These languages were selected to represent the majority of applications developed and have been included to allow you to view how each provision may be approached using each language. They are designed as a guideline for development to help you as you become familiar with Section 508.
As a developer, you may also work with COBOL/CICS. The COBOL/CICS development approach as it pertains to Section 508 is identical across all provisions. To view the information for COBOL/CICS, select this COBOL/CICS link.
