Development and Remediation Guidelines

Applications need to be developed so that they do not interfere with customized settings required by people with visual disabilities. This can be done by:

  • Determining if the high contrast mode is set.
  • Using colors from the appropriate color scheme when updating/displaying all menus and affected screen controls.
  • Drawing foreground objects using foreground colors and background objects using background colors.
  • Creating user-customizable color setting preferences that are application-specific.
