Provision I

Assessment Procedures

As discussed earlier, assessing whether your application conforms to this provision is simple. Utilize the following steps to perform your test:

  • Open the application to be tested.
  • Navigate through the application.
  • Search for:
       – Objects that change color.
       – Use of colors that do not have a significant difference in hue/intensity.
       – Use of colors that are muted (low intensity).
  • Note the use of items or text whose changing color is intended to convey information. These are the items that will need to be addressed during remediation.
  • There may be tools to automate this procedure. Since all twelve provisions can not be measured in an automated way, manual test procedures must accompany any automated processes used to ensure complete testing is performed, and eliminate inaccurate results.

What actions can be taken to develop an application that conforms to this provision? What can be done if an existing application does not conform?
