The visual category includes a wide range of disabilities, from colorblindness to blindness, including nuclear sclerosis or cataracts. Any deterioration of the eyesight, be it from the natural process of aging, trauma, or illness, affects an individual’s ability to use and interact with E&IT. For individual’s with visual disabilities, the biggest – but not the only – concern is being able to see text or images, as well as being able to perform tasks that require eye-hand coordination, such navigating with a mouse. Some of the assisstive technologies available for people with visual disabilities include screen readers, Braille displays, screen magnifiers, and optical character recognition reading systems.
