Accessibility Community Shares Feedback on Website Improvements

The newly redesigned Section508.gov website, which launched on June 1, 2018, has been live for a couple of weeks now, and we're happy to report that the feedback we've received from the Accessibility Community has been extremely positive! The new look and feel is an MVP (minimum viable product) version, and we plan to continue fine tuning the site over the coming weeks and months.

To kick off our post-launch user testing, we invited several members of the Accessibility Community to participate in a focus group to share their initial reactions. We asked participants three questions:

  • What are your initial impressions of the new homepage?
  • Why do you visit Section508.gov? What task are you trying to accomplish?
  • Is there anything missing?

The feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive. Several attendees noted that the site is much easier to navigate and understand due to the simplified interface, mobile responsiveness and improved accessibility. Attendees also provided some constructive feedback that will inform future upgrades we're planning for the site. Some of the suggestions we received include:

  • Develop additional best practices, and provide more examples of accessible video/multimedia content;
  • Develop information on how to join the Section 508 listserv community; and
  • Add content showing upcoming accessibility community events.

Our team at GSA is currently evaluating the feedback and continuing to run user tests. We'll continue to announce all major updates through the Section508.gov blog and the Section 508 listserv.

If you've had the chance to explore the site and would like to share some suggestions for improvement, please email them to section.508@gsa.gov. Thank you!
