Accessibility Checklist for Content Authors in Low Code Environments

Content authors play a critical role in delivering accessible digital experiences. Use the checklist below to review your content before you publish it. Work through each category to confirm your content meets Section 508 requirements. Catching accessibility issues before publication saves time, reduces rework, and ensures all users can access your information.

Before publishing content, verify the following:

Structure and Navigation

  • Page uses the correct heading hierarchy.
  • Page structure remains logical when viewed on different screen sizes and at increased zoom levels.
  • Lists use programmatic formatting.
  • Tables are used only for data and have appropriate header cells notated.
  • The reading order is logical.

Links and Media

  • Links use descriptive text.
  • Meaningful images include sufficient alt text.
  • Decorative images are marked decorative.
  • Media include captions, audio descriptions, or transcript, as necessary.
  • The media player is Section 508 conformant.

Visual Presentation

  • Text has sufficient contrast (3:1 for large text, 4.5:1 for normal text).
  • Color is not the only way information is conveyed.
  • Content remains readable when zoomed.

Documents and Attachments

  • Uploaded documents are Section 508 conformant.

Interaction and Functionality

  • Interactive elements are keyboard accessible.
  • Keyboard focus moves logically through interactive content.
  • Form fields include labels.
  • Forms provide clear instructions and error messages.
  • Error messages are understandable.
  • Focus indicators are visible.
  • Automated notifications, generated reports, and workflow outputs have been reviewed for accessibility when applicable.
