In Module 13 of the Accessible Name & Description Inspector (ANDI) Tool video series, learn how to use the Color Contrast module to programmatically determined whether text in a webpage has enough contrast with its background to be readable by people with moderately low vision—especially those who do not typically use contrast-enhancing assistive technology.
Voice Over (VO): Welcome to the Andy Color Contrast Module. The purpose of this module is to ensure text has sufficient color contrast with its background.
VO: To start, open a web page and launch Andy. Next, choose the Select Module dropdown menu and navigate to the Color Contrast Module.
VO: Once selected, Andy displays the number of elements containing text and each element is outlined with a gray dotted line.
VO: To evaluate color contrast text, select the previous element or next element button to navigate to the text elements on the page.
VO: Once the element receives focus, it is highlighted with a solid pink outline. The contrast ratio output displays the programmatic markup.
VO: Review each element to determine if the contrast ratio output meets the minimum contrast requirement.
VO: Note, elements detected as manual tests needed require testing using the Color Contrast Analyzer CCA Tool to identify minimum contrast requirements.
VO: The use of the CCA Tool is not included in this video. An element passes when the color contrast ratio meets the minimum contrast requirement.
VO: An element fails when the color contrast ratio does not meet the minimum contrast requirement.
VO: This test does not apply when there is no text on the page. This concludes the Andy Color Contrast Module.
VO: Users are encouraged to view the other videos for more information on how to utilize Andy.
