Section 508 Strategic Roadmap Template

The following process list presents a six-month roadmap template for enterprise IT accessibility initiatives. Each month represents a distinct phase and includes recommended ongoing monitoring and reporting of accessibility activities, which should be integrated into regular leadership updates and stakeholder engagement.

  1. Month 1: Strategic Foundation

    Outcomes Activities
    • Clear strategic direction and executive buy-in.
    • Stakeholder engagement and alignment with program values.
    • Highlight strategic importance, challenges, & vision.
    • Encourage collaboration & contribution.
    • Establish mission, vision, & core values.
    • Outline key challenges & opportunities.
    • Present methodology (e.g., stakeholder engagement, data analysis).

  2. Month 2: Current State Analysis

    Outcomes Activities
    • Informed strategic priorities based on data and stakeholder insights.
    • Clear focus areas for improvement and goal setting.
    • Perform SWOT analysis to evaluate key factors.
    • Gather stakeholder input via surveys and workshops.
    • Pinpoint gaps and improvement areas.
    • Provide insights to inform planning.

  3. Month 3: Goal Setting & Strategic Objectives

    Outcomes Activities
    • Defined strategic goals with measurable outcomes.
    • Clear roadmap for program initiatives.
    • Set SMART goals with metrics and deliverables.
    • Establish KPIs for each objective.
    • Define programs and actions for goals.
    • Ensure alignment with agency priorities.

  4. Month 4: Implementation Planning

    • Structured implementation with clear ownership and resource alignment.
    • Transparency in progress tracking.
    • Allocate financial, human, and technological resources.
    • Create phased implementation timelines.
    • Assign roles with a RACI matrix.
    • Implement tracking tools and reporting cycles.

  5. Month 5: Risk Management & Execution

    Outcomes Activities
    • Proactive risk management with contingency plans.
    • Successful rollout of key initiatives with minimal disruptions.
    • Create a risk matrix and tracker.
    • Address concerns through stakeholder workshops.
    • Offer training and incentives for adoption.
    • Initiate key accessibility projects.

  6. Month 6: Evaluation & Continuous Improvement

    Outcomes Activities
    • Data-driven decision-making for future initiatives.
    • Continuous program enhancement and stakeholder trust.
    • Hold quarterly reviews to assess progress.
    • Gather feedback to improve strategies.
    • Adjust plans to meet evolving needs.
    • Document lessons learned and best practices.
